Friday, July 4: Tucson, AZ
After about two solid hours of sleep, I hopped out of bed rearing to go at 3:30 for my 4:00 PR pick-up. The cast was me and the three Hungarians, later joined at the building by four dancers for some hits and teases on the local news station. We were done before seven, but we clowns had to be back in on the 11:00 bus, so we just napped in the alley.
Being Independence day, and most people watch fireworks at night, we only had one show and it was at 1:30. After the show there was a company picnic/bbq at the building. Just after dark, the fireworks (shot off the nearby mountain that I climbed two days ago) we postponed due to a precipitous thunderstorm that passed through. I never expected to see so much rain in the desert, but again I hear it's the beginning of monsoon.
After finishing a long phone call, I realized I had missed the last bus back to the train. It's too far to walk, especially in the rain, and I'm too cheap for a taxi, so I decided to camp out at the arena. The clowns have two large wooden boxes (about 4' x 10') on casters that are used to haul props and equipment. I emptied out one of the cubbies and called it home. I inserted the removable doors to keep it dark, set my alarm, and counted my blessings for being short, because it allowed me to fit lengthwise corner-to-corner.
